Hope in the Hospital

Hope in the Hospital

This week Marije, together with three other women from the De Olijfberg congregation, visited the local hospital in Quevedo to hand out care kits to patients in need. The kits contained basic necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, alcohol, and other hygiene products—items that are often lacking in this context, but of great value.

During the visit, they also had the opportunity to personally pray for the patients. Every bed told a story of pain, vulnerability, and hope. The hospital is in a worrying condition: there are no curtains on the windows or between the beds, making privacy nearly impossible. The paint is peeling from the walls, and due to the security situation, patients are not allowed to receive visitors.

Among the patients was a young man who had been stabbed above his chest, and another man who had been bitten by a snake. In these moving moments, Marije pointed to God’s grace—that these people had been kept safe. At the same time, it was an invitation to seek the Lord, especially in times of need.

The women hope to receive permission to visit this place more often. Not only to offer practical help, but above all to bring light, love, and prayer to a place where despair often prevails.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:19

Thank you for your prayers and involvement. Together we get to sow hope, even in the most vulnerable places.
