Have you felt a desire to bring the message of faith and conversion to others in the world, and are you looking for how you can give concrete shape to this? Below you can read about the process that William Carey Missions will walk through with you.
Introductory conversation
You are warmly welcome for a conversation with one of our board members! We would be delighted to meet you and will hold a first, informal conversation with you. We are curious about your desire and motivation to become a missionary.
If the first conversation goes well, a follow-up conversation may take place with two board members/missionaries. In this conversation we will go deeper into your (church) background, faith life, and God's leading in your life. It is good to involve your home church in your desire/calling right from the start.
After these conversations, the board will decide whether it is possible to start a preparation process. This preparation process will be drawn up in consultation with the board and missionaries. The duration and content of the process will be determined based on your prior education and experience.
Entering the preparation process is, in our foundation, an open and dynamic process. This means that only during the process will a decision be made on whether and when deployment to the mission field can take place.
Psychological and medical examination
We consider it important that the missionary begins the preparation process mentally and physically healthy, and ultimately departs for the mission field in that condition. The perfect missionary does not exist, but it is good to know what your strengths and areas for growth are. You can then already start working on these during the preparation.
Coaching and practical matters
If the psychological and medical examination is successfully completed, you will be assigned a coach. The coach will independently guide you through the process and will work with you on the results of the psychological examination, setting up a home support team, and everything else that this involves.
Bible school and study
As a foundation, we consider it important that you receive teaching on fundamental Biblical themes and are formed as a Christian. In addition, it is good to be equipped in the area of mission work, with the aim of being actively involved in the Great Commission.
Together with the foundation, you will look at which Bible school is suitable for you.
In addition, the foundation will give you a number of assignments to, for example, gain more insight into the culture of the country you hope to depart for. It is also good to prepare for the language you will need to learn. What awaits you? Take a few lessons in advance!
Check and evaluation
In between all the steps there are evaluation moments with the board, and after completion of the process it is reviewed whether everything is arranged. Are you well equipped and stable enough to leave? Do you have people around you who are praying for you? Is the financial support also sufficient? Then it is time to arrange the last practical matters!
Departure
When everything has been successfully completed and all practical matters arranged, it is time for departure. We see it as a Biblical mandate to be sent out from your home church. Of course, as a foundation we remain involved with you and provide professional coaching and guidance for the period you spend on the mission field.
